K-FED: Dancing with Fire

Cram 'Po-Po-Zao' back down Federline's throat |
Reviewed by Shawn from afro-ninja.com
From the Newgrounds triple threat team of Tom Fulp, Jeff Bandelin, and Will Stamper comes this mouse-based beat-em-up featuring our least favorite spotlight rapper, Kevin Federline. In fact I’m not sure I can think of another person I’d like to deliver a spike-wrapped punch to other than K-Fed.
This is where I usually explain the game’s plotline and controls, but there’s not a whole lot to say here. Just beat the hell out of K-fed. You have 360 control of the screen with your mouse, while you click to land punches on Kevin’s face. You can also click and hold the mouse to charge up a super punch. Yeah, punching K-fed over and over could get old, but what makes the game fun is the variety of effects that are implemented. Landing a blow to the face results in blood and spit particles flying around, while receiving punishment yourself will shake the screen and jolt in the direction you got hit. Charging a super punch will zoom the screen and warp the background, giving it a nice feel of increased power. K-fed’s face will degrade as you beat it- from black eyes to layers of skin. Something to keep in mind is that there are several different positions for K-Fed’s face (IE, when you punch Kevin in the gut he looks downward or to the side as he winces in pain) so each face position had to have its own set of damages drawn for it.
The graphics and presentation in this game are dripping with style. Everything from the fully animated Newgrounds intro to the case-file instructions screen are over the top in quality. Bandelin serves up spot-on caricatures of our favorite trailer-park celebs (as well as NG staff cameos), while Stamper wraps it up in a nice pretty package. I’m not sure who was specifically responsible for the game intro (K-Fed running away) or if it was a team effort, but it’s one of the best I’ve seen. The title sfx are even done in left-to-right stereo sound- is that anywhere close to necessary? Not at all, but that’s why it’s awesome.
As polished as the game is though, unfortunately it’s over too fast. Sure, you get a two-for-one deal when Brit enters the fight, but it’s still pretty short lived. It’s not overly difficult either, as long as you stay clear of the devastating ‘Po-Po-Zao’ combo. Considering the game is about K-fed though there’s really not anyone else you could fight, and I would much rather have Britney as a part of the K-fed brawl as opposed to a stand-alone one. Also, the game glitched every once in a while with my super-punch getting stuck, but it was quickly reset so it didn’t really hinder anything. All in all, this is pretty much the best ‘floating fist’ boxing game you’re going to find. I just made that up actually, but if you have a better term for it then please let me know. In the meantime, go beat the crap out of K-fed.
