Divine Intervention, though a couple of years old now, is still popular on a number of sites and still has a fan base. The over-the-top mix between violence and dark humor proved to be an effective formula, and the game oozes quality in every corner.

What will probably grab you first about Divine Intervention is the all-over attention to detail. No corner was cut on the backgrounds, and the enemies look great too. The animation is really stiff, but this was for good reason. It allowed the author to add a feature that leaves a bullet hole on the enemy exactly where you shot. Some parts can even be worn down to the bone if you unload enough lead. I'm sure that for gore fanatics, this feature alone made Divine Intervention a favorite.

The sound effects were well-chosen, and Fischerspooner's Natural Disaster served as a catchy background song. The control of the game was a bit of a weaker point, as the main character felt immobile compared to the fast-moving enemies. There's not much to do besides walk and shoot, so the game was more of a visual experience than a marvel of interactivity. But with graphics this good, I don't even consider that a problem.

Though the game is quite short in length, it's difficult enough that you'll probably have to play through it a few times before you beat it. It's also pretty effective in the replay department as well. Still, I think many fans out there are still crossing their fingers for the befabled sequel mentioned on the author's personal site. Here's looking forward to the possibility.
