Stick RPG *Complete*

First, let me start off by saying there are two versions of this game. One is Stick RPG, and one is Stick RPG *Complete.* Both are floating around the net, so make sure you’ve got the complete version. The first version is a good game in itself, but doesn’t have near the stat building addiction that the complete version has.
In Stick RPG you wake up one day as a stick figure in the second dimension. We don’t know why, but as the game suggests, we might as well make the most of it. The game is based around three main stats- intelligence, strength, and charm. Improving each will allow your character to do new things. High intelligence means you can get better jobs, high strength means you can win fights and defend yourself, and high charm means you can rob stores(?) and make good deals. Each day you have a set amount of time to increase your skills and make progress in the game. You can set the game to last 15, 40, 100, or unlimited days. I suggest going with unlimited if it’s your first play so you can experience everything.
Graphics are pretty rough but it really doesn’t affect gameplay at all. You’re a stick figure in a stick world, it’s not supposed to look fancy. Background music is ok but it can get repetitive so I just opted to turn it off and put on my own stuff. My one real complaint with the sounds is that when you walk or skateboard the game constantly loops a ‘footstep’ or ‘skating’ sound that usually continues for a second after you stop. Pretty unnecessary and annoying considering you can’t turn off sfx.
Even though the game is only based around increasing three stats there’s a lot of small goals and side areas to check out. When you start making the big bucks you can buy new houses to live in, and with the houses you can buy new furnishing items that help you in the game even more. There’s quite a few items to collect and many have side effects besides just restoring health or something similar. There’s a casino to spend your earnings on if you like gambling too.
I would give this game a higher score but the fact is there’s not a whole lot of challenge involved- just a lot of clicking. There’s a couple minigames thrown in but I didn’t find them too exciting. The bar fight system is cool but very broken. Attacks have a wide margin of damage that they can do. Sometimes the most powerful attack will barely scuff the enemy while a regular punch will do more. Sometimes the fight will just freeze and you have to click a button to continue. I’ve seen XGen do some pretty neat stuff, I don’t see why they couldn’t fix the battle system before putting out the complete version.
This game also has long term appeal- it’s possible to turn your character into a president or dictator, but it takes some huge stats to pull it off. That’s where the game also gets a bit dull, because once you accomplish most of the stuff there’s a lot of waiting to build up your stats. A completed game will take you several hours to finish. Not a problem though, because you can save and come back if you want. No doubting it though- if you like building stats and collecting items than this game can suck away the better portion of your day. Play with caution.

I really liked the original version when I first found it, but I was always bugged about the bus depot and the furniture store.
Really fun.
