A nice Hapland tribute

Industry makes no attempt at hiding the fact that it borrows from the Hapland formula It’s good to see someone note this, as opposed to making a spin off and claiming it as original. That said, think of Industry as a watered-down, multi-part Hapland game.

As in Hapland, Industry presents you with a large area, and a task. In this area there are many things you can click on, that produce various results. Click on these things in the right order, and with the right timing, and you’ll accomplish your task. Instead of having one large task to finish, Industry gives you five smaller ones. The same mechanics still apply, there’s just less complication and interaction. One gripe I have though is that some of the actions don’t make that much sense. In Hapland, when you figure something out, you figure it out for a reason. That usually happens here too, but there’s a few times where the answer is a little out of the box. Industry will lead you down the same false paths that Hapland does, but due to level design doesn’t present as many opportunities to do so.

Graphics follow suit with Hapland as well, but the difference is clear. While both use simple backgrounds and stick figures, it’s clear that Hapland has a distinct style and fluidity to it. Industy gets the job done, but with rough edges. Sound effects are all appropriate, but the music loop that repeats in the background might get on your nerves.

I hate to draw so many parallels to Hapland in this review, but it’s difficult not to. This game is more like a tribute to Hapland instead of a substitution. Due to a couple odd puzzle setups I actually had to break down and use a guide, whereas with Hapland I was able to piece everything together and win on my own. A decent puzzler by any regard, but stick to the original for the best quality.
