Kitten Cannon is just one of those things that either catches on or doesn’t. Despite the super-simple gameplay it definitely caught on. Even with absolutely no plot or meaning to the game, you can’t help but give it a few plays.
In Kitten Cannon you do two things- aim your cannon and fire it. Everything else is up to luck, gravity, and randomness. The goal is to get your kitten as far as you can. You have obstacles that will stop you, like spikes and venus fly traps, and obstacles that will help you, like trampolines and dynamite. I’m a little confused as to why the TNT doesn’t just blow you to hell, but I’ll let it slide in the spirit of cartoon violence. Each time you fire the cannon the obstacle layout is completely random. You could instantly die in a section of spikes, or blast on for thousands of feet before slowing down.
The graphics are simple and cartoony. Something about that paired with the concept of launching cats around makes this unusually entertaining. You can play for a high score and chances are you’ll keep playing just for the ‘what if’ effect. Even if you’re looking for something deep, you owe a few minutes to kitten cannon. Just imagine it’s Garfield that you’re firing out of your cannon.
