The online section of flash games is new and growing, and Mini-putt online is one of the first to take advantage of that. The mini-putt flash game has been around for several years actually, but this isn’t just a remake of the original- new courses, better graphics, and of course, online play.

MPO is powered by Psycho Goldfish’s proprietary ‘Sserver’ program. Getting started in a new game is easy. You can log in as a guest (quick play), register an account to use, or sign in using your existing account. Once inside the setup is pretty much like any other online game room you’ve seen- check out a list of rooms, refresh the list, chat, join a game, or start a new game. Games can be password-protected if you want. While playing the game you can chat with your opponents and check out the score at any time. MPO is a lot of fun when playing with your friends. The ball changes are in real time (aside from lag/clipping sometimes) so when your friend makes that shot that just barely grazes the hole you can taunt them excessively.

Graphics are a major upgrade from the original miniputt, with larger courses, more detail, shadows, textures, and things to see in between. The courses include standard miniputt obstacles like dips, hills, angles, tubes, blockers, and of course, a windmill. Miniature golf games don’t qualify as true games unless they have a windmill in there somewhere. SFX is standard fare golf noises, and they do their job. The only real downside to miniputt is that it’s over after 18 holes (but there also two other courses to choose from- cosmic and spooky) so if you don’t have friends to play with the novelty can wear off. If you do have friends though, it’s got some lasting appeal. Also, tracking stats for individual accounts would be cool but that can always be added in later. Log on to MPO and give it a try!
