A Classic Nintendo game, online!

When I played this game for the first time, it was like walking down memory lane. The name of the game is Contra: 20th Anniversary Edition, created in flash. The game is very similar to the Nintendo version and the online version is great to have if you don’t have an original Nintendo.

The first thing that you notice is that you can customize your settings by setting which buttons you want to press during the game play. You can also use a joystick in one of the game versions. Another nice thing about the menus is that you can pick your difficulty, sound levels, and more. The only problem with the menus is that they’re a little ugly and could be spruced up a little more to make them more attractive.

Graphics and sprites are done very well in this game and everything is implemented flawlessly. The overall game window could be a little larger in order to see the game play a little better. Another nice feature is the high score board where you can post your scores and see how you match up with everyone else who has played the game.

The music and sound effects are ok but the music in the beginning when going through the menus is somewhat misleading. To me that particular song sounds like it belongs in a scary movie rather than a fighting game.

When it comes to playing the game itself, it’s quite challenging. Even though you can customize your cursor buttons to what you’re comfortable with, it can still be difficult to play the game. Once you get used to your controls, it will get easier. The game was addictive to play on the Nintendo, but you might become addicted all over again with this online version.
