Tam Tower Challenge is an original flash game-show that borrows elements from existing shows, such as Deal or no Deal. Unfortunately it’s a little oversimplified, but it’s a quick play and you’ll probably want to check it out for a round or two.

Tam Tower has 21 floors. On each floor, there are two cards. Choose one card to take, and then the other one will be revealed. Most cards give you money, some are good bonuses (like +25%), and some are bad bonuses (-25%, game over). Keep picking floors and cards until you get to a checkpoint and end your game, or hit the game over card. The problem with borrowing elements from Deal or no Deal is that Deal or no Deal wasn’t very complicated in the first place. It’s just random luck, with some haggling in between rounds. Here there isn’t even haggling, you just keep picking cards. What I do like however is the way in which the cards combine- some will add and subtract percentages from your total, and some will even add ones and zeros to your total. It adds a bit more mystery to the card selection, knowing that not everything is just “plus X dollars.”

The graphics are part hand-drawn, part 3-d animated/modeled. The only problem with the 3-d modeling part is that the export quality is fairly low, making the parts done in 3d look pretty grainy/jaggy. Since there’s very little of the game that actually uses it, I think it would have looked much better to simply export at a higher quality level. The game uses some nice crowd applause and gasping effects for when you play, which fits nicely. There’s also a sort of a ‘high tension’ music track playing in the background, reminiscent of what you would hear in a real game show.

The overall game presentation and design are very nice, but I can’t help but feel the game is a little dull. Once you win your money and end the game, that’s it. You can submit for high scores of course too. Since the game is pretty much 100% random luck as it is, it doesn’t make it too enthralling. I would have liked to have been able to spend my winnings on something at least, even if it was some artwork or extra music tracks, just to get a sense of completion. The game is still quite entertaining from a gambling perspective of course, but just don’t expect a lot of substance.
