Simple mechanics with some depth

Bloons is a new puzzle game where you must eliminate groups of balloons by throwing darts at them. What could be a very repetitive concept is expanded with different powerups, level formations, and goals, and makes for a fun play experience.

Bloons offers 50 levels of balloon bursting action. As usual you’ll start out with your easy levels, but once you get through ten or so they start to get challenging. Instead of simply winging darts around you have to start making precise throws, making sure to maneuver around bad balloons and collect the powerups you need. Some of the levels are still just random luck, but you’re always going to have that. Some of the powerups include: bomb, boomerang, and triple dart. The levels also throw different obstacles at you, like solid walls, breakable walls, and bouncy walls. There’s more, but I don’t want to ruin everything.

Graphics are fairly simply but still look nice. After all this is a game about balloons, you can only get so fancy. No music to be found, but I think it’s fine without. All the popping and exploding sound effects are what you would expect them to be.

The game will save your progress through the levels, so you can come back and try again if you get stuck- or play a level you already passed. You can also choose to play in ‘unlimited darts’ mode, but you wont be able to unlock new levels with it. There’s also replay value, as you can try to achieve 100% completion (all balloons popped) on each level. This is pretty damn hard on some levels, but if you hate your free time then be my guest. Getting through all the levels is a challenge enough in the first place, so be sure to give it a shot.
