Alien Hominid- the first flash game to make it to consoles. It’s a little hard to review this after playing the much-enhanced console versions, but that doesn’t make it any less of a flash game. In AH you play as a little yellow alien fighting the FBI in an attempt to get your UFO back. You’ll fight the obligatory boss and mini-bosses, and pick up various power-ups along the way. This flash (‘demo’, as it is now considered) only lasts for a single stage, but it’s quite a stage at that.

The first thing that stands out about AH are the controls. The controls themselves are simple (run, jump, shoot) but work great. I never enjoy playing action games on the keyboard, so for me using a program like JoyToKey is a must. Although the controls are simple, the enemies are not. If anything this game is a bit on the hard side, as enemies can shoot at you from nearly any position with accuracy. Add a few enemies on screen at once and you’d better be good at dodging.

The animation is fluid but the art itself looks a little rushed in some places, especially the backgrounds. I don’t blame Dan though, because the entire level has a unique background, no repeats. Explosions and other misc. effects are nice as well. If you want to see sick explosions though, you need to check out the console versions. They flow perfectly. All the sound in this game is fitting, from shot effects to dying FBI men. I wouldn’t call the music outstanding, but it certainly fits and the fact that it is custom made by Lavender Hill Mob (as opposed to being ripped from somewhere) says enough.

The programming is very well done and pays attention to small details- you can jump onto virtually any platform/building you see. Jumping in the air and firing downwards causes you boost up a little, lengthening the jump. Things like these make you realize the effort put into the game. The game’s menus are simple and to the point, no complication. Just some instructions and a cut-scene, and you’re in the game. Alien Hominid isn’t perfect- but as far as side-scrolling shooters go, this is one of the best out there.

You got it spot on in this review. While the graphics arnt as good as dans other works they are still above most other flash games that are out there. Also the paceof the game seems to be abit slow in places. ( I've been playing the console version alot recently and the flash version just feels slugish and slow by comparison(but its still excelent for a flash game))

I gave it a 9. Very fun game.
